Self-Care Outside The Box

Self-care, self-care, self-care! I think if you are a human you have likely heard, read, or said the term “self-care.” We put a lot of emphasis on taking care of ourselves so we can take care of others. We also point out when we don’t have or feel unable to do “self-care.” BUT WHAT THE HECK IS IT?

We asked around and got some of these answers: getting a massage, getting your nails done, a facial, going for a walk, eating healthy, drinking more water, meditating, and reading were some pretty popular answers. Some of those are readily accessible and can be done wherever you are at. But, SOME are costly and time consuming.

So, instead of a wordy blog post, we will post a list of  “outside the box, non-traditional” ways to take care of yourself… Or, as we so lovingly know it: SELF CARE!

Take a leap! Step outside the box!

Little changes make big differences.

Digital declutter:

Unfollow accounts that make you feel drained or inadequate, delete or unsubscribe to emails that you are tired of seeing in your inbox, or take an intentional break from doom scrolling

Make a to do list:

Some may find this stressful but others enjoy having all their tasks on one sheet.

Cold water splash:

A splash of cold water to the face or a fresh shower for a nice reset.

Touching natural textures:

Finding tree bark, dirt, leaves, anything in nature (or in your house) and noticing how it feels

Listen to music:

Pick your favorite song and listen to it uninterrupted.

Unplug:

Put your phone in the other room and practice being without it.

Give:

Look through your closets and donate things that you do not use anymore

As we said before, this is meant to be outside the box. If touching tree bark seems silly, weird, or straight up dumb… we get it! But, have you tried it? Doing something different shakes things up in your mind and nervous system! Happy mental health and happy stepping outside the box.
